Walk, Run or Ride the Metabolic Mile at Albert Park

January 30, 2024

On Saturday, January 14th, the Metabolic Health Foundation held its very first Metabolic Mile event at Albert Park.

Individuals of all ages joined in the fun accompanied by their furry friends, getting their steps in for the day.

The event emphasised how crucial physical activity, like walking, is for our metabolic health.

Walking at a brisk pace or moderate intensity is an aerobic exercise. When you do aerobic activities regularly over time, you can see many health benefits:

  • Blood glucose (blood sugar) levels go down
  • Insulin sensitivity goes up
  • Heart health improves
  • Metabolism increases
  • Weight loss or maintenance becomes easier
  • Blood pressure decreases
  • HDL (“good”) cholesterol increases
  • LDL (“bad”) cholesterol decreases
